Posted on

Not many homeowners are familiar with the kitchen countertop materials, thinking that they only have one (or two, max) options for the materials. Keep in mind that managing and planning your kitchen can be a complicated work but you don’t need to stress it out if you can plan everything carefully. In short, choosing the right material can improve the look of your kitchen – and you don’t even have to hurt your wallet.

Laminate

This material is made from plastic laminate (thin layers) that is bonded to the MDF or particleboard core. The materials are coming with different styles and colors. The great thing about this material is the price. It is inexpensive and the variety is great. The easy installation is also one of the things to like about this material.

However, such a material is considered cheap or cheesy for most people. Not to mention that they easily chip, peel up, and scorch. When compared to other kitchen countertop materials, this one feels lightweight and somewhat hollow. Despite the downsides, the popularity of laminate remains the same. A lot of homeowners still love this material because of the positive traits.

Ceramic Tile

This is one of the most popular and also sturdiest types of materials. It is also pretty solid and tough with beautiful finish – when done properly. Some of the things to like about this material is the inexpensive price tag. Installation is also easy – a lot of homeowners choosing the DIY project would use this material. The tiles are coming with different variants and looks, such as real stone, bamboo, and others.

However, the existence of grout seams makes this material rather difficult to clean and maintain. Not to mention that the tile is quite fragile – it can easily crack or brittle. Fixing the damage can be difficult and costly. If you don’t mind the maintenance, this can be a great option for the kitchen.

Granite Slabs

Included as one of the natural stone for the kitchen countertop materials, this one can create an elegant and solid kitchen effect. The countertop will look unique – not to mention that your countertop will look durable and heavy. It is certainly not the cheesy or flimsy quality. It doesn’t need any seam and your property’s value can increase.

Unfortunately, this material is quite expensive. This material isn’t the DIY type because you will need to hire the professionals to help you. You will also need to seal the stone regularly so it will be free from any stain. But if you are looking for a premium quality material and you don’t mind spending more, this one would be perfect for you.

Granite Tile

They are almost similar to the ceramic tiles with similar way of attachment or installation. In a way, this tile can improve the elegance and atmosphere of the kitchen. The tile is also easy to manage (and also install) and it is inexpensive.

Some of the downsides, though, include easy cracking or breaking. And because this tile is included as the natural stone, you will have to seal it regularly. Anyway, the decision to choose the right material depends on you and the budgets. Review each of these kitchen countertop materials carefully and narrow down your option to a specific material.
